A Brief History of Competitions at The Spot
Since opening in 2002, The Spot has hosted some of the biggest and most influential climbing competitions in the country. In its first year, The Spot Boulder hosted nationals-level competitions for the Professional Climbers Association (PCA) and American Bouldering Series (ABS). The ABS was formed by Scott Rennak, former Marketing Manager of The Spot, and officially became a part of USA Climbing in 2004, creating what we now know as USAC’s National Championships. To this day, The Spot has hosted more nationals-level bouldering competitions than any other gym in the country.
Shortly after opening, The Spot also created a new wave of innovative competitions, like Psychedelia (the first official blacklight climbing event) and the Spot Bouldering Series (a season of 4 themed bouldering competitions), both of which return this October.
